gabriella vergilov returns to the label s vinyl arm with a set of distinctive hardware techno reuminations to send shivers down your spine. termosfera strides in confidently with a grinding mechanical synth hook that subtly shifts around the 4/4 drum pattern like all the best wormhole techno should. siempre loco is a sparser affair that focuses on space and poise, using minimal ingredients for maximum effect. boring shit bucks against the suggestion of its title to fire off a set of rhythmical cycles that feel indebted to the vast outer reaches of space. detroit hero t-1000 runs with this idea and pings the track into a particularly funky star system somewhere very far away from planet earth.
BARRICADE (DJ TENNIS REMIX) (10 INCH, WHITE COLOURED VINYL)
10 Inch 07.09.18
my favorite robots next release is a very special remix by dj tennis. it initially comes as a 10 white vinyl and will then be available digitally in autumn. mfrs ‘barricade was first released on dj tenniss life and death label back in 2012. it was a huge house track that resonates to this day, so it makes sense the taste- making italian steps up to remix it. he is someone with a cultured take on brooding house and techno, as evidenced by the music he a&rs for his label as well as things like his own standout dj-kicks mix from last year. his new remix is a masterfully melancholic one that starts with a delicate ambient synth line hanging in mid air. breathy vocals eventually arrive to send shivers down the spine and finally, deep, rolling, mid tempo kicks bring a groove that carries you away into a reverie. its made all the more mournful and poignant thanks to some broad synth chords and swirling pads later on and is sure to provide a real centre point of any seriously emotional set. this is a stunning and absorbing single and another high point for my favorite robot records.
the franchise goes one cut deeper as parasols aka ali renault and antoni maiovvi team up on this dark as hell during an eclipse set of grime soaked grease sleazers. parasols throws forth two sharp as blades numbers with a guest appearance by the one and only unit black flight with his first ever remix. antoni maiovvi closes things with something from the vaults, the 808 and sub bass sleekness of shivers, remixed by black metal ebm overlord equitant. guaranteed nightclub nightmares as we put on the gloves one more time...
the ninth release on the dsr-c series comes from rhine. a new name with his roots in atmospheric techno steps up for his first solo ep.the ninth release on the dsr-c series comes from rhine. a new name with his roots in atmospheric techno steps up for his first solo ep. de storm opens the account with a loose collage of textured drums and scuffed-up synths. it makes for a bubbly groove that journeys far off into the night while de bron is more rooted underground, with cavernous echo chambers run through by supple bass synths and icy hi hat trails. spooky and haunting, its a track to send shivers down your spine. last of all, het meer is a watery affair, with aqueous drips and drops, radiant pads and then more tightly coiled drums brushing up against one another to make for something atmospheric but also nicely driven. all three tracks are characterised by a rather tender and reflective mood that makes them all the more unique.
radical connector was originally released in 2004 and is now fnally back on vinyl. this re-issue is pressed on mixed splatter color vinyl and presented in a high gloss jacket with free download card. though reference points like daft punk and prince have rightly been thrown around, radical connector is in fact a strange album that doesnt sound like much else. pitchfork
for the second release on their black series, ravage invited electronic music veterans al matthews and patrick walker to team up under their forward strategy group moniker. the last release of these legends was quite a few years ago, but the wait was worth it. their east port rangers ep kicks-off with nine and one, a hypnotic, heavy-loaded stomper containing some uplifting, loopy vocals. following is the most minimalistic track of the ep, lisp your way, yet it still has a lot of substantial punch and lash to it. the b-side starts off with heavy broken beats, combined with a classic rave sound, taking the listener back to the blistering sound of the nineties. finally, the ep oozes down with the track in abeyance, a haunting, down-tempo track with a melody to send shivers down your spine, which could be deemed a real creeper.
nice price deal !!! second drop from grievous angel this week, making a huge impact with a shockout vip version of naphtas soundclash 1, backed with his supremely odd grime stepper harpy. in whats turning out to be quite an immense week for releases from the grime/step scene, grievous lords it up high with his mix of naphtas junglist soundclash, forging the sort of darkside bass lick that sends shivers down your spine, and welding it into a hard stepping garage framework indebted to the legacy of steve gurley and el-b. absolute bomb track! on the flipside gas wicked harpy sees the light of day, making nods to wileys early grime/post garage reductions with a splintered percussive palette and agitated synth stabs balanced by a powerful dubstep bassline.
one of jamaicas most highly-rated vocalists, alton ellis made an incredible contribution to the islands popular music. blessed with a particularly emotive voice that brings shivers to the spine whether singing original material or cover tunes, ellis was born and raised in trench town, the west kingston ghetto area that gave rise to bob marley and the wailers and countless other singers. ellis and singing partner eddie parkins hit big in 1961 with the ballad muriel for coxsone dodd, and after parkins moved to the usa, ellis teamed briefly with john holt, and then began fronting the flames harmony group. he excelled in the rock steady style, christening the genre with rock steady and i have got a date, bouncing between studio one and treasure isle for a number of years. from 1971, he spent increasing period in london, but continued to record hits in jamaica for various producers. the 1979 release love to share was arranged by the great studio one keyboardist, jackie mittoo, who co-produced the album with junior lincoln, founder of the london-based bamboo label, the disc straddles the line between lover’s rock and roots reggae, remaining a lesser-known classic
lux rec shifts again its attention to greece. prosopo is junes newest alias, and means face disturbed microcosm where to experiment with different machines, unconventional textures and rhythms. the result is as uncomfortable as it gets, arid desires, despair concealed with cold resonating motives. we do not celebrate joy.a fast descent into a deserted heart. a feverish feeling, much like when it is warm and one still shivers. annoyed greek gods playing tricks on human
san francisco’s prolific jp soul has amassed a quality-consistent catalog of compelling cuts, drawing equally upon his affinity for underground deep house, psychedelic disco, and analog acid.
chris carrier’s brings us the latest installment from his ever-trusty adult only label, with a firecracker from julian alexander, a rudeboy from holland, utrecht to be precise. julian’s close ties with slapfunk records, the label that released carrier’s most recent artist album, make him the perfect candidate to captain this new release, which is full of murky grooves and simmering energy. across three tracks julian brings encapsulates that adult only flavour, kicking off with ‘butress roots’ a bass-heavy roller with an eerie overtone and a minimal make-up – watch out for the extended breakdown, it will send shivers down your spine. up after that we have ‘xy’ a more up-tempo, bouncing, dance floor destroyer. major vibes on this one. on the flip ‘point of view’ brings the energy down again, with a steady flow, and a slow-building pads together with an indecipherable female vocal clip that adds to the captivating atmosphere. carrier steps in to remix ‘point of view, closing out the ep with a punchy demonstration of his production prowess. raw.
now heres something special. a straight up, bona fide summer smash. a massive dancefloor-smashing beast of a tune. daniel dexter continues his long and fruitful relationship with poker flat by channelling the sound of classic clivillés & cole in deeper love, an early 90s house bomb that will send shivers down your spine.
angels dust is vocalist flavia ciampi and producer david lampley, both originally hailing from san diego, ca. their bewitching, hypnotizing yet soulful debut summons the same heaviness and somber darkness of portishead & mazzy star. ciampi’s almost-whispered vocals are front and center, anchored by loose swinging beats that are as unnerving as they are catchy. lampley (also known as psychopop, one half of san diego instrumental noise legends skrapez, as well as a frequent gonjasufi collaborator) handles the gritty lo-fi production duties.
collision with the past, part ii the drama continues. a set of immersive and moving experimental techno outbursts by our man boris bunnik aka conforce. conceived to reach beyond your emotion circuits, send shivers down your spine and make your neurotransmitters shake. true beauty doesnt come from the unavoidable music industry promotion cosmetics. real music should reach your soul, and can only be explored through direct transmitted waveforms. from our frustrated minds to yours.
the act of shimmering is the act of leaving conscious thought behind. it s accepting what lies beyond the corporeal, transcending the physical, the soul is aware and the body, eyes, skin are distant empty casings. a clamorous, chaotic cacophony surrounds a beatific center. an endless assault of guitar, of noise that glistens, a poignant rigor. jannick schou, proprietor of tape loop drone, places himself within the tunnel of din to produce this profound work: an ethereal dream using nightmarish parts and images. black and grays generate vibrant innards. brightness is unearthed within the fetid mass and these six tracks immerse the listener into a raging sea to find a gentle undertow. furious outbursts emerge from simple, slow shivers. tremors of noise gather, reaching an elongated crescendo, becoming transformative, and shattering what form or structure was designed to contain such an outpouring of sound.
this is the first release of mexican/canadian label departures records done by up-and-coming artist mike khayata. the ep features 2 original tracks and 2 remixes, shivers is a deep, slow but very dynamic track that reflects the artists thoughts on the immediacy of things these days. its chord progression drives the track and captures your attention from the moment it starts and makes for a very introspective listening experience not necessarily designed for the dance floors
the relentless work ethic of dj w!ld shows no sign of slowing down with another amazing ep, this time through his own imprint the w label, that unleashes four new tracks plus a dubbed out remix. in contrast to his recent output on other labels the four tracks sit firmly in the dj tools category with stripped back arrangements, raw-to-the-bone underground house grooves and drums showcasing all that is good about the parisians highly in-demand dj sets. head-nodding tribal infused percussion is the main theme with tracks blind and miami bitch setting the scene with a brass breakdown in the latter that is sure to send shivers down spines. narco switches things up with its core element focused around a shoulder shaking bass organ straight out of the 90s. on board gets and original and re-worked dub outing with hypnotic congas and a vocal that loops inside the mind.
nice price deal !!! so now, here is karezza by the way, karezza is not the soft feel of the wind on your skin but magick extreme tantric sex, the end of a voyage for us in a way, the beginning for you. a record to be proud of, albeit not an easy one. it has already blown away acid luminaries like james holden, ed chemical, piers martin, konrad black, it will certainly enlighten many more in many dark ways.
